Reflections: Top Natural Wonders

We regularly felt floored by the scenery around us during the trip.  Here were our highlights…

  1. The Himalayas, Nepal

2. The Andes, Chile / Argentina

We saw the range from the East (Argentina), West (Santiago) and from a plane and from a bus when crossing the border.  Right from the northern regions and down south into Patagonia.  Beautiful! To see more click here

3. The Emerald Cave, Thailand

Swimming through a stunning cave to a hidden beach.  Memorable for it’s beauty, for the millions of Chinese tourists and Ryan’s mum bravely facing her fears and swimming out of her depth for the first time. To see more….await Ryan’s upcoming post!


4. Karst Limestone Formations

In Thailand and in Laos.  Aways making for a stunning backdrop. To see more click here


Vang Vieng, Laos

5. The Chocolate Hills, The Philippines

Named after Hershey’s chocolate kisses, there are many legends about these fascinating hills that reach as far as the eye can see. To see more click here

6. Geothermal Activity, Taiwan and New Zealand

We were lucky enough to visit two major destinations famous for their geothermal activity.  Firstly, Betiou Hot Springs in Taiwan and Rotorua in New Zealand.  The former proved very relaxing and the latter absolutely breathtaking! To see more click here and here

7. Huge Trees, Thailand and New Zealand 

Awe-inspiring trees.  In New Zealand, the largest Kauri tree is even called the ‘God of the Forest’.  To see more click here

8. The two largest coral reefs in the world, Australia and Mexico.

We were lucky to dive and snorkel in the national parks, which surround the immense Great Barrier Reef and Mesoamerican Reef.  To see more click here

9. Burning Mountain, Australia

If it wasn’t already hot enough we decided to walk up a mountain in Australia with a live coal seam running through it! To see more click here


10. Tongariro National Park, New Zealand

A memorable walk to Lord of the Rings’ ‘Mount Doom’! To see more click here

11. Milford Sound, New Zealand

The drive there and the sites on the way were just as stunning as the boat trip on the sound itself! To see more click here

12. Mount Cook, New Zealand

Surrounded by the huge lakes in the Otago region.  Beautiful. To see more click here


13. The Beagle Channel, Argentina

An interesting cruise from the southernmost city in the world, Ushuaia.  As close to Antarctica as we will probably ever get! To see more click here


14. Tierra del Fuego National Park, Argentina

Walking through Tierra del Fuego (Land of Fire), the park at the end of the world.  During mid-winter. Brrr. To see more click here


15.  Perito Moreno Glacier, Argentina

The pearl of Los Glaciares National. Taking a boat trip to the glaciers icy snout and watching huge chunks of ice break off and crash into the water – breathtaking. To see more click here


16. The Fitz Roy Mountain Range, Argentina

17. Torres de Paine National Park, Chile

We enjoyed perfect viewing conditions for the famous towers.  We vowed to return to complete the multi-day ‘W’ and ‘O’ treks in the future. To see more click here
