Reflections: Most Memorable Journeys

I guess the entire year was a journey in its own right.  However, these mini-journeys we thought were worthy of a mention …

  1. Trekking the Annapurna Circuit, Nepal

3 weeks trekking in the Himalayas via the highest trekking pass in the world – pretty epic!  To read more click here, here, here and here

2. The world’s longest cable car, Langkawi Island (Malaysia)

3. 10-hour boat from Mandalay to Bagan, Myanmar

A long but peaceful trip down the Irrawaddy River to the amazing temples at Bagan.  A beautiful boat ride with fantastic company.  To read more click here


4. Transferring to Boracay Island in a Typhoon, The Philippines

It was the day before my birthday and we couldn’t wait to get to paradise – Boracay Island.  Sadly though a Typhoon was hot on our heels.  To read more click here


5. Cycling down Taiwan’s East Coast

3 days cycling between Hualien in the north and Taitung in the south.  Strenuous!  To read more click here


6. An eventful border crossing to Laos from Thailand

This involved hitching a lift in the back of a van, a perilous Mekong river crossing and lots of keeping our fingers crossed! To read more click here


7. Taking the slow boat to Luang Prabang, Laos

Memorable for many reasons, but rule no.1 for a 9 hour boat transfer down the Mekong: don’t sit near the large group of travellers with the huge box of Thai whiskey and beer.  To read more click here


8. 17 days and 2000 miles in a Hippie Camper on Australia’s east coast

From tropical Queensland to the hustle and bustle of Sydney.  To read more click here


9. 1500 mile New Zealand Road trip

From the north island to the south island, ‘Edward’ did us proud!  To read more click here and here


10. Crossing the border from Argentine Patagonia to Chilean Patagonia.

Not as easy as it would seem in the off-season.  Thank goodness for the Brazilian girls who planned their car transfer well and took pity on us! To read more click here
